Mrs. Braga-Mehrotra
The teacher
Dear families, I am thrilled to be teaching fifth grade this year. Students in fifth grade are more independent and are able to engage in critical thinking which allow us to have fun and engaging conversations about more abstract concepts. I am originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. My father's entire family is from there. My mother's family is from San Diego and I grew up visiting my grandparents, uncles and cousin in Southern California. I graduated from San Diego State University with a B.A. in Psychology and decided to pursue a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. On my third year as a PhD student, I came to the conclusion that I wanted to teach elementary school. Many of my close family members are elementary school teachers, and my mother is a librarian. They supported me to go back to school to obtain my teaching credential. Throughout the years, I have taught ELD in Brazil, pre-school and last year I was the ELD teacher at Commodore Sloat. I completed my three-semesters of student teaching a McKinley elementary school. One semester I was in kindergarten and two semesters I was in fourth grade. I had AMAZIING master teachers who loved and cared for all their students and were truly committed to their students' education. It's an honor to be serving this loving and supportive community. After teaching at Commodore Sloat for a year, I realized that withdrawing graduate school was indeed the best career choice I have made. Thank you for welcoming me with open arms.
